Kumeu River 'hunting Hill' Chardonnay 2023

These 2023 wines from Kumeu River Estate are a 'Tour de Force'

The wines, from 40 year old vines on the Brajkovich family estate just outside Auckland, show how the deft hand of winemaker Michael Brajkovich.

Hunting Hill is one of Kumeu River's special single vineyards. It offers that lovely ripeness and defined fruit but in a more focused style, with delicate weight and pronounced flinty/mineral themes. The site was planted in 1984 on the slope above the legendary Mate's vineyard, before a replanting in 2000 revealed a new single vineyard quality that is now a legend in itself and is now even better than before, giving beautifully ripe fruit with a distinctive, fine minerality. This will be delicious soon, but cellaring will enhance the character of the wine further.
